HISTORY

In 1958, Lloyd Lindquist and Warren McNely formed a small general contracting business in Oakland, CA. The two embarked on a successful venture concentrating mostly in structural concrete projects. The business expanded to other types of new construction through the 1960’s and 70’s, but concrete construction was still mostly the focus. Although most work was in the Bay Area, their concrete expertise took them to other western states including Hawaii and as far as American Samoa. In the 1970’s, the business added focus on major remodels and rehabilitations. From old canneries and factories to abandoned downtown department stores, major structural upgrades and conversions to light industrial, office space and retail became a larger part of the company’s portfolio. Warren McNely became sole owner in the mid 1980’s when his partner retired. The company continued to complete conversions and remodels, structural upgrades and new buildings. In 1994, Claire McNely Koenig and Dan McNely took the reins and the second generation of family ownership began. Claire and Dan continued with that same portfolio, but also began to work into the church and private school markets. After 18 successful years partnering with Claire McNely Koenig, Dan McNely took sole ownership in 2012.

McNely Construction is still that same company that Dan McNely grew up in. Our portfolio remains mostly the same: new construction with wood, steel, concrete or block elements, seismic and structural upgrades, churches and private schools, freezer buildings, light industrial facilities, office space and interior tenant improvements. We are not just brokers, we are builders! We do self-perform concrete and carpentry, not only on our projects, but at times acting as a sub to other GC’s that act mostly as brokers.

The construction industry has seen significant change in application, new methods and materials, as well as technological advances, but our core values remain unchanged. We value relationships and the “do what you say you’re going to do” attitude. Whether awarded a project through competitive bid or negotiation, we want to team with the owner and design group to create projects on time, on budget and with excellent quality.
